Starting in Fes I was received promptly at my hotel, welcomed with an air conditioned van - very well kept and clean. Entire drive was smooth, and felt like VIP service. Breakfast followed in Ifran - a little Switzerland in the desert where the air turns fresh, and the feeling of adventure kicks in as you step into another world, as if Europe took a turn south and simply landed in Morocco. Conversation was always lively with Yahya, with no difficulty with my American (Texas) English but also saw his many languages come into play throughout the trip - Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and French among others while navigating local transactions and simply connecting with people.

I expected to enjoy the monkeys in the forest but did not expect to find the guide stepping away and returning with peanuts- resulting in hand feeding the macaques! Barrels of monkeys on the ground and in the trees, this was 1,000 times better than any zoo I've ever been to. Fact is - this was just tip of the iceberg, as we continued on our trip, stopping for restroom/walking breaks as often as needed/requested, we traversed canyons with ancient forests and navajo-type dwellings; learned about the local people and business; encountered fossils/dinosaurs; and prepared for an unforgettable desert experience.

And Voila - we arrived to the desert with zero trepidation and no clue what to expect. And y'all ... Merzouga's camels!! The camel experience is like none other, where the only thing missing was Aladdin himself. The ride was easy but every turn over a new sand dune revealed something more and more promising about this nomadic land. The photos alone made the entire trip worth it, but arrival to the Berber camp was stepping into a desert fairytale. I was hoping for glamping, expecting camping, and instead, received a 5-star experience far surpassing all expectations I may have had before arrival. Drinks, dinner *shoutout to chef, were quickly followed with a surreal evening by the fire with local music and great company. It's like a dream, drifting off under a million stars after a night of magic with a warm breeze drifting across the camp and simply absorbing this Saharan way of life.

And then ... a BEAUTIFUL tent (think honeymoon-lovely) and even more beautiful sunrise- in a hammock, by the camels, next to the dunes - the world becomes quiet.
This was a moment of perfect nothingness and everything at the same time, and as the camp began to stir, I was slowly reintroduced to reality with mint tea, coffee, water, and a full Moroccan breakfast. On departure my heart left full - the return experience was not quite as easy knowing the Sahara was in my rearview.

It was my first, but certainly not my last experience in Morocco or with Yahya and the Fez Sahara Tours team. Thank you Yahya! Blessed beyond measure, I’m greatful to have chosen THIS tour with you leading.

Our tour guide Yahya picked us up in the evening for our hotel transfer and was with us for 7 days straight. Once he’d pick us up, he would stay with us until he dropped us back (keeping a safe distance to give us time just as a family but being close enough to help and participate should we need him). He was incredibly kind, knowledgable, patient with us, genuine, and above all, he made our time in Fes the best holiday we have ever had as a family. He showed us hidden gems that we hadn’t even expected, which left us super happy. When we wanted to eat something, he would take us to the best places. Yahya helped up pack in a much as we could within the 7 days he was with us, including 2 days to and back from the Sahara dessert, the blue city, meknes, volubilis and moulay idriss day trip. Quad biking, feeding the monkeys, touring us around Fes. All done within the comfort of his excellent ride which more than comfortably fitted my family of 5. So much so that my 16 year old motion sick child (who vehemently hates car rides) actually asked me if we could just go for a super long ride in Yahya’s car! Anything we wanted to do or were interested in, Yahya went above and beyond to try and arrange it.
I cannot begin to express my gratitude towards Yahya for making our time in Morocco such a memorable one. This was our first holiday since 2019 (our last coincidentally being Marrakech!) and it was a much needed break and bonding experience for my family of 5. And yahya helped us make it one which we will never forget!
